It's an ultra modern assemblage of plexi and steel. Or maybe a magnificent and unique example of wood craft. Perhaps an elegant Elizabethan fortress at the front of an Episcopal Church. Maybe a cast bronze bulwark, playing counterpoint to a room full of classical art. It's a Lecturn or Lectern.
However it's spelled, every speaker knows what it's for! It's a place to call home while you speak. It's a steady friend on whom you may lean. It's a refuge from a hostile audience, a place to find refreshment and a cache of throat lozenges. Your notes can live there in case your mind wanders. Your keys can hang out to keep you from "jingling." An extra pen and some Kleenex, and you're good to go! Of course in the end, it's Home Base -- in case YOU wander. It's the place to return as you conclude the opus, and give the audience a few parting thoughts.
There are a million good designs for lecterns, and great approaches for presentations. Yet, no matter how you spell it, all speakers will welcome a Lecturn.
